Dr. Colbert is working with PBI on spearheading AZA climate dhange initiatives. AZA member zoos have the ability to reach millions of people and inspire change. She is responsible for overseeing AZA's core animal programs, facilitating the work of AZA's members in cooperative population and collections management, and the advancement of AZA's conservation and science initiatives.
Parker Fitzpatrick
L & D Cable, Churchill, Field Engineer
Parker Fitzpatrick of Churchill, Manitoba, takes part in PBI Leadership Camps every year. A school board member, trapper, local businessman, and employee of Manitoba Hydro, he contributes information on traditional and local knowledge in the Far North, including the trapper's lifestyle and relationship with the land. As the owner of L & D Cable, he helps link the PBI Buggy One Tundra Buggy electronically to the rest of the world.
Shane Good
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Keeper Outreach
Shane Good is also president of the International Congress of Zookeepers (ICZ) and the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK). Shane holds an Associate Degree in Fish & Wildlife Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, and is completing a Masters of Science Degree in Biology. He coordinates the partnership between the AAZK and PBI for the annual PBI Zoo Keeper Leadership Camp in Churchill, Manitoba.
Pat Murphy
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry in Eau Claire Regional Forestry Staff Supervisor
Pat Murphy works closely with PBI on an initiative in Wisconsin called the Polar Bear Forest. Her goal is to educate the public about sea ice loss in the Arctic and how planting trees can help. It has already sparked similar projects in other places.
Julene Reed
Apple Distinguished Educator and Advisory Board Member, and Director of Academic Technology for St. George's Independent School, Tennessee
Julene Reed is also a member of Dr. Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Advisory Council. Reed joined PBI in Churchill in 2008 and 2009 where she took part in webcasts and video conferences conducted live from the tundra. Tundra Connections, which is a webpage and blog for educators sponsored by PBI on the Apple Learning Interchange, reaches a global audience.
Dr. Ricardo Stanoss
Director of Education & International Training, Chicago Zoological Society
Dr. Stanoss is the co-chair of PBI’s Education Advisory Council, along with PBI staff member Kathryn Foat. He has significant experience in developing practical learning strategies in formal and informal educational settings in the U.S. and Latin America. His educational focus includes helping PBI Arctic Ambassador Center zoos develop and include climate change components in their exhibits and education and outreach programs.
Dr. Jane Waterman
University of Manitoba
Dr. Waterman studies the behavior of the polar bears in the Churchill. She has pioneered a whisker pattern identification technique, which is noninvasive, as well as a way to determine a polar bear's weight through noninvasive digital photos.
