The sunset tonight was awesome.

The Past Three Days

So the internet was down for a day so that kept me from blogging for a day or two. But it’s been sunny for the past three days which has been amazing. Here are some quick shots taken out the window.

Some videos up shortly

This morning there seemed to be quite a few bears around, most of them sleeping, despite the howling winds. This afternoon, though, they seemed to all dissapear and there were none around the lodge which was odd. The tide was the highest I’ve ever seen it, mostly from the wind. The bears are really cute when they decide to stretch or scratch. We cleaned the buggy last night and it seemed to have a lot more space afterwards. We tested the Polycom unit today and it worked really well. It seemed really bizarre to be in the middle of the tundra and be able to talk to someone and see them in perfect quality with no video or audio delay.

I’m finally getting used to operating the camera’s by joystick which is good. I was able to film from the basement today, which is a box-like object suspended from the bottom of the buggy which has a spot for your camera lens. It provides for an amazing angle of bears and definitely spices up the shots of bears sleeping. I’ll hopefully have some footage from that up on here within the next couple days.

It snowed last night! Which made it feel more like the tundra! There were alot of bears around the lodge today so we didn’t have to venture far to get good shots. I saw my first northern lights before dinner tonight and I saw my first arctic fox (during the daylight), and it seemed they were everywhere, I saw at least three. Here’s a short clip from two days ago of two bears walking towards camp. One bear really wanted to playfight but the smaller one didn’t.

Today we were live and there were alot of bears around! We caught one waking up this morning and here’s a clip of that.

So today was the first day operating the camera. It’s going to take some getting used to to be maneuvering a camera using a joystick but it’s a lot of fun! The meals here on the lodge have been excellent! Here’s a photo from the drivers seat of Buggy One.

October 21 & 22

Yesterday I woke up bright and early in Churchill and went straight onto a tundra buggy. On our way out to camp (the tundra buggy lodge) we saw a caribou, an arctic hare, one very sleepy polar bear and an arctic fox.
After lunch they dropped me off at the lodge, which is really nice and homey. I couldn’t wait to see Buggy One! Buggy One is really high-tech with internet, numerous computers, and a joy-stick operated camera on a crane that can lower the camera really near the ground.

This morning I woke up in Buggy One and got up and on my way across to the lodge I happen to look over to my right and a bear is standing there looking rather perplexed and then decided that she wanted a closer look so stood up on the side of the buggy! I can’t even believe that for the next three weeks I will be waking up to bears outside my door, its so exciting!

Also, later this morning I had the oppurtunity to meet the Premiere of British Columbia, Gordon Campbell and the Premiere of Manitoba Gary Doer.
