Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell has challenged the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service proposal to set aside 187,166 square miles as critical habitat for polar bears, saying it would be too costly. The Fish &Wildlife Service estimated the cost at $669,000 over 29 years. But Parnell says that an independent economic review commissioned by Alaska puts the figure at hundreds of millions of dollars.
