Chart of July Sea IceA change in circulation patterns gave arctic sea ice loss a reprieve in early July, slowing the rapid rate of decline in May and June. Even with that change, the ice extent remained lower than normal in all regions of the Arctic, with open water developing along the coasts of northwest Canada, Alaska, and Siberia, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Worldwide, global combined global land and surface temperatures broke records for the fourth month in a row.
