The British Petroleum spill in the Gulf of Mexico has prompted Canadian officials to put a review of Canada's Arctic offshore drilling regulations on hold. An earlier study on polar bears exposed to oil showed that two out of three died form kidney failure—and the Gulf disaster serves up hard lessons on emergency preparedness, containment technology and environmental disaster.
