Add together the areas of Alaska, Texas, and Washington state—and you’ll see how much summer ice is already gone. It’s polar bears’ greatest threat.

How to be a Greener Organization

Are you a Green Organization?
PBI defines a GREEN business as one who makes a serious commitment to sustainable and ecological practices and strategies in an effort to improve the environment and the quality of life in its community. In other words, an environmental steward.

PBI defines product stewardship as the responsible development and management of a product from its inception to its ultimate end and discontinuation.

What’s the payoff?
Going green is cost-effective, socially responsible, more attractive to consumers and potential employees—and great public relations.

In a recent MonsterTRAK.com poll, 80% of young professionals say they want jobs that have a positive impact on the environment, and 92% would be prefer to work for a company that is environmentally friendly. If this demographic wants to work for companies with these values, they will certainly support companies with these values.

How do you start?
Create a Green Team. It may seem daunting to consider taking green steps in a down economy, but many actions will actually reduce your costs.

Green Teams are employees who work together to develop and promote sustainable practices at the workplace—from improving internal operations to creating measurable environmental policies, systems, and procedures.

Where can I get information?
There are hundreds of articles, guides, and lists available through organizations, publications, industry associations, and government offices to help you devise strategies or pinpoint tactics. There are far too many—and some, by necessity, far too specific for us to list here.

PBI recommends that you Google® green ideas for businesses and discover what might work for you.

Whatever that is, it will certainly be better for our beleaguered earth.
