Post-operatively, a full-limb fiberglass cast was placed on the repaired limb and Bob was kept in a squeeze cage for 5 days. He then was moved to a small pen with a pool.
Radiographs at 3 months post-op revealed proximal synostosis of the radius and ulna. At 4 months post-op, the plates were removed because of concerns that the hardware would impair physeal growth. Bob returned to the exhibit 5 months after the initial surgery. The final outcome for Bob was a good range of motion in the affected limb with a slight decrease in supination and pronation.
Bob died at age 13.5 due to cardiac disease.
