Thank you. It’s a real pleasure to be here in San Diego. Dr. Engeli would have liked to be here, but he is currently sitting for his surgery boards.

As you can see, the majority of the authors are from Cornell University. Despite rather Arctic weather in Ithaca, New York, it is not every day that we have polar bears at the hospital. Our interest in fracture disease in polar bears began in 2000 when we saw a polar bear cub with concurrent radial and ulnar fractures. A similar case had been seen at Cornell in 1988. After the second bear, we couldn’t help but wonder how frequently polar bears experienced these kinds of injuries.
