    Life for a polar bear is all about gaining weight. More blubber, healthier bear. But with no convenience stores nearby, they have to hunt for every morsel in the freezing cold.

In 2005, the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) classified the polar bear as a vulnerable species. In 2009, they reported that of the 19 subpopulations of polar bears:

• 8 are declining
• 3 are stable
• 1 is increasing
• 7 are without sufficient data
