Acres for the Atmosphere • Model for Communities

Acres for the Atmosphere is a roll-up-your-sleeves tree-planting and educational effort involving chapters of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK), zoos throughout North America, and PBI Arctic Ambassador Centers, located in over 35 zoos. It was started by graduates of the 2009 PBI Zoo Keeper Leadership Camp and is endorsed by their leadership organization.

The program involves tree planting, learning, and FUN! Participants plant trees in local communities and also help educate the public about the benefits of tree planting to counteract a warming climate. Check out:

Members of AAZK are passionate advocates for conservation and have the potential to reach millions of people with their message. Trees reduce carbon in the atmosphere even after they're harvested. If you want to find out about the benefits of trees compared with other materials in our environment, take a look at The Facts About Trees & Wood.

Planting Trees for Polar Bears is a multi-dimensional program—a true collaboration of PBI, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK), and a group of dedicated AAZK-affiliated zoo keepers.
