The storm is over and it’s time to get up. Polar bears wait out bad weather by curling up in the lee of snowbanks. They can stay there for days if necessary.

Biography:

My name is Taylor Goerke and I am from Memphis, TN. I am 17Photobucket years old and attend St. George’s Independent School in Collierville, Tennessee. My interests include traveling the world and meeting people from other cultures, shopping, and spending time with my friends and family.

I am grateful to represent our school in learning about a global issue far from Memphis. So much of our time as students is spent studying traditional subjects such as math, science, and English. Because we are focused on core subjects, we are often not aware of global issues surrounding us daily. Polar bears, the general issue of conservation, and decreasing our carbon footprint all are issues that burden our society. It is my hope to learn ways how we can make a different in the Memphis area. Involving a city with one million people, it is possible to ensure the goal of polar bear conservation.

I am confident that change can occur. Change occurs through education and awareness of important subjects. I hope that my travels to Canada will enable me to see the world from a new perspective and gain a new perspective for the struggles facing polar bears. Humans dominate the planet, and unless we are aware of issues facing animals like the polar bear, we may see them become extinct. If a few people do not work to make difference, how will a larger group of people care for their future? I believe that now may be my time to venture out of Memphis to gain an awareness of an important issue whose story needs to be told. I am honored to represent St. George’s at the Polar Bear International Leadership Camp this fall.
