Biography:
Hello, my name is Telecia Lee, I am 16 years old and in year 11 at Beenleigh State High School. I haven?t lived in Beenleigh all my life, I am originally from the country but Beenleigh is a great place. My family consists of my father, Kevin, mother, Sharon, sister, Kymberly, brother, Chris and little sister Tamryn and I. I always enjoy the company of my family and friends.
This year I have been selected to attend Polar Bears International science camp in Churchill, Manitoba. It is a trip which I can?t wait for and I am really focused on. Whilst at the PBI camp I hope to learn and experience new things, extend my knowledge on Polar Bears and meet new people.
Some of my interests are beach volleyball, surfing, hiking, fourwheeling riving and socialising with my friends. At the moment I don?t really know what I want to be when I leave school as I?m just trying to pass and complete year 11. I would really like to go to University when I complete year 12. I don?t necessarily have a favourite subject at school, which is making it harder for me to decide on what career I will pursue in the future. Finally, I would like to say that I?m really excited and I?m looking forward to meeting everyone when I get there.

Day 7
Today was pretty cool. We had to present the last two chapters to the group. This time we had a pretend alien and had to explai to them climate change and how it effects the arctic. Also adding in the last chapters. It was interesting. After that we then explored the tundra a little more. When we got to a certain destination, we all had 45 minutes to answer 1 of 3 questions and then present it to the group so that the could criticke on our faults. The question we had to choose from were: Can one person make a difference globally and if so how
2)What inspires you and how can you inspire others
3)Has this experience changed your view on climate change and if so how.
I chose the first one. I was so nervous because everyone before me, were so good at presenting and they hardly faulted. But anyway, for me it was interesting to hear everyone elses thoughts and outlooks on life. After that was such a cool experience. It was the highlight of my day. I got to DRIVE the tundra buggy. Wooh hooo. Im a natural. Nah just kidding. but it was so fun. After me was Meagan. P from Winnipeg, she was so funny, when she took off seriously I was standing at the front of the buggy and she just slammed her foot on the accelerater, I literally flew to the end of the buggy and hit my head on the side of the chair. It was hillarious. We seen heaps more bears today and they were interacting and that was so cute and exciting for me. Polar bears in the wild act totally different to captive bears. It is such a better feeling seeing them in the wild. I enjoy it heaps. I am having the best experience on this camp. I have learnt how to be a better leader, and not only that I have learnt so much more than that. This is just one of those experiences that I have learnt so much more from it and being here. The things I will take away from this camp will stay with me forever. The things that I have learnt at this camp for me I never thought that I could learn in a lifetime. It has really opened my eyes. I feel much wiser now. He he he hahahah. Well I will write tomorrow.

Day 6
Last night was the first time that I seen the northern lights. They are so bright and pretty.
But anyway today was another day on the tundra. Instead of giving group lectures to the rest of the class on the book "the warming of the arctic," we were put into groups to present a skit or entertaining program to still explain the chapter we were given but make it entertaining. Doing it in this way was to help us feel more comfortable about the subject, understand it better and to help us feel better about the subjects when we are presenting to people when we get home. Presenting it this way for me was much more comfortable and fun. Meagan, Christna and myself presented a game show. It was so fun and hillarious. other groups did skits and whilst it was funny it was still educational. After that we went out exploring on the tundra and actually set foot onto the ground. I was so scared. I literally though I was going to get eaten. OMG. Oh well. I am having fun and still learning lots. I will write tomorrow.

Day 5
Today was our first official day on the tundra. We woke up quite early had breakfast then set out on one of the buggies. when we reached our first destination we had a big discussion on the book the warming of the arctic, and that how we are the next generation to be intrusted with the world and that it is now up to us to educate others to help conserve and preserve the world and all the inhabitants. After we discussed the first two topics we then moved locations and further discuussed the third and fourth chapters. It was quite interesting for me in the discussion because I got to hear everyone elses piont of view on the entire subject, and I was quite supprised on all the different emotions, feelings and suggestions that were brought forward. When we got back to the lodge the mother and cubs were back so that was very cool. Tomorrow should be pretty exciting because we have been put into groups and have to make up a skit on certain chapters in the book. So that will be pretty funny I think. Now I can say that I am officially learning lots, its like they think us kids are spunge, they keep feeding us with information but suprisingly enough I actully remember iit. Once again the people , landscape and animals here are so nice its oveerwhelming. I am having a great time and being educated, and its cool. I will write again tomorrow.

Day 4
Today was awsome. It was really great. At the start of the day, we flew by helicopter to the maternal dens. The helicopter ride was absolutley breath taking. The view was amazing. It is soi much better than flying in an airplane. When we got out to the tundra it was really scary because I was worried a bear would come or something, but we were very well protected by the rangers and pilots. When I went inside the den, I was on my belly crawling in, it was so hard to get inside, but once I was inside it was pretty cool because there was ice-icles hanging from the ceiling in the cave. But compared to the size of the bear and the size of the cubs when they come out of the den, the area inside was very small. Once we got back to town we had about an hour or two of free time, so me and some of the girls went to a place in town and had lunch. It was pretty cool because all the nachos were different colours. Then I had my favourite drink. An ice cappacino. They make them so nice at the cafe' that I have to keep having them, but anyway after that we began our journey o the tundra lodge. They view out on the tundra is so cool. once we got to the lodge there was a male bear here. The tundra lodge is so pretty. Its deffinately not what I expected. Then just before dinner a mother and two cubs came butt then left really quickly because of the male bear that was hanging around. Apparently we are really lucky because at this time there is hardly never any mothers and cubs.
Anyway I am having heaps of fun but at the same time getting an education. So Im enjoying it heaps. I will write tomorrow.

DAY 3
Ooohhh, today was great. We seen our first polar bear, had a tour of the town, D20, the study centre, the dump, Parks Canada and my favourite; an abandoned science laboratory where the scientists studied polar bears in the olden days. Well today we learned heaps and heaps and heaps. We learnt that food and eating is the most important thing. ( Robert Buchanan always enfisizes that eating is always the first thing to do and to always stuff leftovers in your pants to make sure you dont get hungry later. Funny Hey) The most exciting part of the day today for me was when we went to the abandoned study centre. Seriously if anybody wants to make a horror film, that is the place to do it. It was so creepy, the place had so many cages, rooms, chemicals, torture utensils (or what looked like them),lots of little gadgets, and big storage facilaties, like the freezer. It was also really nice when I seen my first polar bear and Canadian pure breed husky. The polar bear wasnt to big though, he was pretty small, I think that he was a sub-adult because of his size and also he was at the dump, and most bears that go to the dump are trouble bears (sub-adults). It was also cool when I seen the Husky, he had the sweetest eyes ever. The tour of the science centre was really interesting, some of the information that i found out was quite impressive. ( well I thought so). Dinner was nice, It was Christinas (she is from Germany) birthday, and everybody got her gifts and we gave her a cake. It was really sweet. Oh also I am so excited about tomorrow I cant wait. We arte taking a helicopter ride to the maternal dens, and we get to climb inside one. Its going to be very adrenalin pumping. so that will be cool. Once again, I am learning lots, having the time of my life, the people here are so great and I will write tomorrow.

DAY 2
Wow, Churchill is cold. Hello everybody. Well today was exciting, we flew to Churchill in the smallest plane on record. But it was fun, and it is really really cold here compared to Australia. The wind feels as if it is blowing off the ice caps, literally. Today wasnt that bad they said, 2* C to them isnt really that cold. Yer right. But I'm getting used to it slowly. Churchill is a nice town with nice people, they are very cool. Tonight is meant to be very windy, we are expecting winds up to 70km/h. Exciting hey. I am looking forward to tomorrow because we are exploring Churchill and learning about the history of the town and the people. I am really enjoying myself here and am enjoying being in such a great new environment. It also has its draw backs, because Im starting to miss my family and friends. Im not used to being 100 lightyears away from them, but Im getting used to it and thats okay. Im still learning lots and having a ball, so I will write tomorrow.

Day 1.
Hello. Today was pretty exciting, It was the first time in about four days that I actually left the airport. We went to the botanical gardens to see the Bears on Broadway. The bears on Broadway are seven-foot, 8,000 pound concrete bears that are along Broadway and the Botanical gardens. the bears are a signature project that commemorates the 75th anniversery of Cancer Care Manitoba. Fifty one artists together painted different designs to each of the sixty two bears. After seeing them all I can say is "WOW." They are awsome. But before that we had some guests speakers, Robert Taylor and Clarence Tillenius. These two men were the most inspirational men I think that I have ever had the privelidge of listening to and meeting. Robert Taylor is a great person and naturalist, I remember him saying that even though he is a photographer the animals come first. It is also amazing how he can look at a picture and see the adventure he had when taking it and the story behind it. For example, he took a photo of a polar bear in I think the seventies, and when he was explaining it to us, he told us every detail about the story. Clarence Tillenius is also an amazing person. He's a very passonate person and enjoys painting. He enjoys it so much that when he lost his painting arm in a railroad accident when he was alot younger, he taught himself when he was in recovery to paint with his other hand. He said that there is nothing better than persistance with passion behind it, and i think that it is very true. After meeting all the students here, I am so pleased and impressed. The other students that are here are so bright, smart and funny. I am estatic that they are such a cool bunch. So far, for me this experience has been one of a lifetime and one ill never forget. I have learnt so much and its only the first day. I have learnt that if your going to do someting in life there has to be passion behind the vissions. Meeting people like Robert and Carolyn Buchannon is just the best thing, they are some of the most amazing people you could ever meet. their kindness is overwhelming. They make it such a great environment to be in. I am looking forward to the rest of the trip and I cant wait to get to Churchill. Well I'm having a great time, learning lots and experiencing new things. I will write tomorrow.
