Eureka! This whale carcass is like gold to polar bears that have no ice for seal hunting. With more than enough to share, all bears are welcome at this gold mine.

What are PBI Leadership Camps?
A gathering of leaders from across the globe who want to be part of saving habitat for polar bears. The camps are coordinated with PBI partners, including members of the PBI Arctic Ambassador Center network, PBI Associates, and other like-minded organizations allied with PBI. Currently, camps are offered for zoo keepers; educators and communication specialists affilated with zoos and other educational organizations; and teens.

The camps are held in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, the Polar Bear Capital of the World, as polar bears gather on shore waiting for the ice on Hudson Bay to freeze—usually in late September and early October. Participants spend their time aboard the Tundra Buggy® Lodge through the generous support of Frontiers North Adventures.

Who gets to go?
Our Arctic Ambassador Centers and partners, which include schools, zoos, museums, government agencies, and companies that have pledged to work with PBI on behalf of polar bears, select the participants.

Can individuals apply to PBI to attend?
Sorry, no. Our Leadership Camps are specifically targeted to furthering our partnerships with our network and alliance members. If you live near one of the partnering organizations or zoos, you could become part of the pool of candidates. Each partnering agency chooses its own participant.

Although it's not the same as traveling to Churchill, we invite you to join our efforts. Please visit our How to Live GREENER page for ways that you can help polar bears—no matter where you live.

For information on travel to Churchill to see polar bears, contact Frontiers North Adventures.

How do PBI Leadership Camps meet PBI's mission?
PBI is a nonprofit dedicated to the worldwide conservation of the polar bear and its habitat through research, education, and stewardship. We champion the interests of polar bears wherever they are. This includes working with like-minded organizations to provide them with cutting-edge programs, up-to-date information, and the leadership skills needed to change the world.

What does it mean to be an Arctic Ambassador?
It's not just a cool trip to the cold tundra. The job of an Arctic Ambassador really starts before he or she arrives at Leadership Camp. Participants are selected because they already have a record of leadership, as well as a strong interest in leading—in short, they're already making a difference in the world.

Leadership Camp takes them to the next level. They'll be moved, motivated, and inspired to join one of PBI's action plans to reduce CO2 back in their communities. And there's no time to waste: The arctic ice that polar bears need to survive is melting fast. As an Arctic Ambassador, participants become part of a fast-acting team working to cool down the planet for polar bears—and for people, too!

How much do PBI Leadership Camps cost?
The cost to the individual ambassador or supporting organizations is minimal. This includes the cost of airfare to and from Winnipeg and a $1,000 registration fee. PBI is immensely grateful to our platinum sponsor, Frontiers North Adventures for the complimentary use of its Tundra Buggy® Lodge and mobile buggies; to Canada Goose for warm parkas provided to participants during their week at camp; to Four Points by Sheraton Winnipeg Airport Hotel for lodging; and to Calm Air for discounted flights. We also wish to thank our education partners, Manitoba Conservation and Parks Canada.
