How does this contest help polar bears?
It challenges everyone to reduce carbon emissions in their home communities. Why CO2? The build-up of this greenhouse gas has led to dramatic changes in polar bear habitat. The Arctic is warmer now. The sea ice is melting. And polar bears need the sea ice to hunt seals. By cutting carbon emissions, we can help save polar bears for future generations.

Which zoos participate—and how do I find out more about local contests?
When you register your team to compete in the PBI Polar Bear Project, you'll find a drop-down list of all participating PBI Arctic Ambassador Center organizations. If an organization near you isn't on the list, just enter in the At-Large category.

For this contest, we define the community surrounding a zoo as the area within a 50-mile radius. If you live in an area overlapped by two organizations, register your project with only one of them. Each organization will have its own local contest launch. For details, visit your participating organization's website.

Besides helping polar bears, what can my team win?
The four Finalist teams win a trip to San Diego for the Awards Ceremony. The Grand Prize is an incredibly awesome trip to Churchill, Manitoba, Polar Bear Capital of the World, to see wild polar bears up close and personal.

What are the rules?
We've prepared a complete list of contest rules so you can share them with every team member.

When do we start? What's the deadline?
We have two sessions each year: summer and fall. We've created a schedule for you to reference.
