Seal! A meal. Polar bears look at seals the way steak eaters look at cattle. Dinner on the hoof—or in this case, on the flipper.

CFL’s and Earth Event

Last Saturday, the 7th, the Green Teens met to work on the “Bright Idea Project”. We decided to create a presentation board about this project that can be shown around the community. This board will include information about global warming, the solutions, as well as the three products we are providing. We went out to get supplies for the presentation-board, and also to look for some of the products we will be providing. At Home Depot we were able to get four crates of Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs at a dramatically discounted price. This was exactly what we were looking for. Now we can provide these to the community at an equally discounted price, which is near to impossible to find. While still at Home Depot; we looked into the outdoor vent plugs for under the house. We brought three different sizes home to determine which sizes to purchase. Also, we determined where to get the hot-water heater wraps at a discounted rate. These are surprisingly difficult to find, and will be a perfect addition to our project.

The next step in this project is to finalize the presentation board for our three products. We will also have to purchase the hot-water heater wraps and the vent plugs. Finally we are going to schedule dates and times to go out and provide these to the public. This project is moving very smoothly and we are looking forward to working on it more.

We have also been hard at work with the upcoming “Earth Event” at the Whole Life Center. After a little discussion with the members of the center, the event has taken off. Everyone seems excited to get involved. Bill Bradbury has expressed great interest in the event, and even asked to be a part of the event. Because of his request, we have decided to change around the event to highlight his presence and his presentation. The show that he will be giving is very similar to that by Al Gore in An Inconvenient Truth, but is specially geared towards Global Warming's effects on Oregon.  Jacob talked with the center’s teen group about how they can be involved in the event. This event has really taken root and we’re looking at an ongoing “Green group” at the center. This week we will be sending out invitations to select members of the community inviting them to attend Bill Bradbury’s presentation and the dinner beforehand. This event is the most exciting yet, and we are working harder than ever to make it the best it can be.
