Don't Be Idle Kits and since then

Since the Earth Event the focus of the Green Teens was on developing "Don't Be Idle" Kits to be distributed to the schools. After looking at the student involvement section of our proposal we decided that we should help out the parent volenteers a little by providing them a set of information and guidelines to get them started. The idea was well recieved at the board meetings, so we decided to go forward with it.

The basic Kit basically includes information about idling, as well as ideas about how student groups can be involved. We wrote up a series of fact-sheets about idling, as well as a list of websites for groups to reference for further info on idling. There was also a calculation grid for counting the number of idling cars in front of schools, a page of poster ideas for students, and more. We even recruited one of our friends to help us make a short DVD of Sierra and Jacob introducing the Don't Be Idle Campaign for younger kids.

We worked on organizing the kits for quite a long time, and finally were able to put them together. The day after they were completed we distributed them to each of the shools in the district.

Since then Jacob has been in constant e-mail contact with the various parents and teachers involved in the project at each shool. It has been an interesting experience, but the project is turning out to be a great sucess. We are working on a press release for the media, and will hopefully be getting full news coverage of the Kick Off day on December 8th. It's been a long road, and we have learned a lot, and it seems that were almost there.
