Project Category:
Reforestation
Project Outline:

The EcoGirls think you can learn a lot from a tree. We are going to work with our neighborhood elementary schools to educate their classes through tree planting activities. Our goal would be to go into all the second grade classrooms, teach them about the importance of trees (CO2 reduction, home for animals, beauty, etc) and then do a planting on the school property. Part of our education will involve teaching the class how a newly planted tree needs to be cared for, and then making the class the stewards for those trees. For the next four years they attend that school, those students will be responsible for the trees, will learn to care for them, make a watering plan for the summer, and observe how they grow and develop. It is our hope that we will not only reduce carbon emissions by planting individual trees, but that we will also plant something far more important in the students' heads - an understanding of the importance of trees AND the idea that they can be part of helping the planet.
