Piercings may be all the rage. But polar bears don’t fall for fashion fads. This button shows that this bear has been counted in the census. PBI underwrites population studies.

Project Category:
Zero Waste
Project Outline:

The project category that we are entering is Zero Waste with the goals of both starting a phone book recycling campaign in our community and following up with a phone book opt-out campaign. Why opt-out? Helps conserve energy - companies that print them are burning up 3.2 kilowatt hours of electricity. • Saves trees - companies that print yellow pages had more than 19,000,000 trees destroyed. • Saves Fuel - companies that print yellow pages are wasting 7,200,000 barrels of fossil fuel. • Saves time - easier for consumers to find up to date listings online. • Good for the environment - stops unsolicited delivery of 540 million books per year. We will also be starting a crayon recycling program in our elementary schools and community through Crazy Crayons. Crazy Crayons "closes the loop" by taking broken/unwanted crayons and making new, sellable crayons. Both of these projects will be complimented with numerous community outreach events to promote Project Polar Bear and Polar Bears International.
