Know Your Number

Season:
Fall

Adult Advisor:
Amanda Greenvoss
Team Members:
Will Darmohay (age:15)
Miles Shepard (age:15)
Ragen Sands Anderson (age:16)
Project Category:
Saving Energy
Project Outline:

Know Your Number aims to give users the ability to quantify the effect their everyday decisions have on polar bear populations.  Using certain algorithms, users will be able to input values like energy usage, fuel usage, food consumption, etc. to evaluate their monthly or yearly carbon footprint.  With that information we will be able to establish a precise effect on polar ice caps and polar bear population. Once a user determines their impact, they will be asked to make changes in their habits that will reduce their footprint. They can then recalculate their impact to see what a positive change they can make.

Know Your Number would also like to expand over social-media and promote conservation through weekly challenges.  Theses personal-challenges will be shared to followers on the Twitter account and Facebook page, and people will respond to the posts if they are planning on completing the current challenge.   Three people per team is a small number for people who really want to make a difference and have many ideas.  Know Your Number also wants to team up with other teams to help bring their ideas to life.
