The "Art-tic Challenge" is a public art competition in which people will submit a photo of a polar bear artwork that they created using only recycled materials. We will advertise for this using fliers on re-purposed paper. There will be a adult and adolescent age division. The public will vote on which art piece is the most representing polar bears recycling. The winner will get a behind the scenes tour at the Oregon Zoo, and a free T-shirt, which will be donated. The second and third place winners will receive T-shirts, as well. The first, second, and third place winners will have their artwork displayed during the Zoolights event at the Oregon Zoo.
We will visit schools to do a climate change and polar bear presentation, followed by an in-class repurposed materials craft. We will then leave a bin for materials to be collected at the school, as well as information about participating in the Polar Bear Art contest. Two weeks after the initial presentation, we will return to the class to pick up any extra materials as well as photograph any completed art projects. All unused materials will be recycled through Metro recycling.
In addition to our main project, we hope to participate in some local tree plantings and other eco friendly events. We will spread knowledge of all of these things through a Facebook page called "Local to Global." On this page we will also have carbon saving facts, endangered animal awareness, and a spot to where people can pledge to cut their carbon consumption.
