A mother and her cub play in the water near Svalbard, Norway. Norway is one of the five polar bear nations, and the only one that imposes a total ban on polar bear hunting.

Season:
Fall

Adult Advisor:
Amanda Greenvoss
Team Members:
Ireland Gilronan (age:17)
Scout Clair  (age:17)
Megan Tamblyn (age:17)
Project Category:
Close the Loop
Project Outline:

Goal: To help the environment by collecting everyday products that can be donated and reused to create cool new products. To create awareness about what to recycle, how to recycle, why we do it, how you can recycle at home and the positive effect recycling can have on our environment.

What: Using terracycle (terracycle.net) we can donate everyday items that most people just throw away. We collect these items and ship them to terracycle’s many locations and in return, the schools that we collect at will receive 2 cents for every item collected. Products include Ziploc, Tupperware other containers, Candy wrappers, Chip bags, Cookie bags, Inkjet printer cartridges in library and staff clusters etc. We hope to do this in both our own school as well as some of the elementary schools in our area. If we can get young kids to think that recycling is both fun and valuable, they will hopefully continue to be responsible recyclers for life.
