We are focusing on doing a green Christmas, with the majority of our work going towards recycling old strands of lights and switching to LED Christmas lights. We are also looking into educating people about living Christmas trees, recycled wrapping paper(newspaper and bags), choosing gifts wisely, and green arts and crafts for students to make as gifts or ornaments. We will have a booth at the Oregon Zoo Zoolights event to talk with visitors with lots of hands-on activities to get them involved. After talking to us, we will ask them to make at least one change to their holiday plans this year, and they will pledge with one or more beans into different containers, allowing us to estimate the CO2 savings. We also want to visit a couple of local classrooms to talk about green holiday ideas and to make a recycled material craft to give as a gift (in re-purposed paper!).
