Canadian photographers Jenny W., from Alberta, and Dave S., from Ontario, raised $3,216.02 CDN through the “Detect and Protect Polar Bears” Challenge.

“We met for the first time this year during polar bear season. Advocating for years online for conservation of the icy kingdom, it was an exciting opportunity to join forces and see what we can achieve.

Our favourite animal to photograph is without a doubt the polar bear. Aside from being charismatic and beautiful, to us, their story is one that affects all creatures on Earth including humans. Aside from that our work as wildlife photographers is forever indebted to the tireless work of conservation leaders like PBI.

Their research and work can bring them to the most inhospitable places on our planet, in some instances resulting in an involuntarily polar plunge. A plunge they risk daily in the field is one we will gladly take for the bears for this fundraiser! Thank you to those that warmed us up with your generous donations and support.”

“I have had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Polar Bears International's fieldwork team several times over the last 5 years. PBI is a true leader in the conservation of the Arctic environment and the long-term survival of the polar bear. They are dedicated to scientific research and education to make a better world for both animals and people. The team has always been genuine and kind while remaining committed to doing the hard work for all the right reasons. They inspire me to learn and do more to help their cause.

Because I deeply care about polar bear survival, I participated in their Protect Mom and Cubs Challenge to raise funds for the den-detection project. I am so grateful for all who supported me in my efforts. By protecting polar bear dens, we’ll protect moms and cubs, helping to ensure their future.”

The Wildlife Collective, a group of wildlife photographers from across Canada and the U.S., raised $1579.43 USD through the “Protect Moms and Cubs” Challenge and another $1,000 CDN through the "Protect and Detect Polar Bears" Challenge.

Carla, from Memphis, TN, raised $1041.39 USD through the “Protect Moms and Cubs” Challenge.

“It is an absolute honor to be connected to Polar Bears International. Their mission to conserve polar bears and the sea ice on which they depend coupled with PBI’s work to educate and inspire people to take action to care for the Arctic, and in turn the planet, gives me hope. After looking into the eyes of polar bears during my visits to Churchill, how could I not answer the call to help and to tell others about PBI? Jeff, from Caledonia, Ontario, Canada, raised $816.65 CDN through the “Protect Moms and Cubs” Challenge.

“I am a family physician who studied biology as an undergraduate and have always had a love of animals. My wife and I had the opportunity to travel to Churchill, Manitoba in November 2019 to see the polar bears in their native environment. We were impressed at their adaptation to the harsh northern climate and reliance on sea ice for survival.

I became involved with the PBI peer-peer fundraiser program wanting to play a small part in bringing attention to the cause of the polar bear. I want to support the initiatives and research efforts of PBI as well as increase awareness of their plight and the challenges they face in remaining a presence in the Arctic environment.”
