Polar Bears International (PBI) is launching a Conservation Special Report and Perspective Series examining some of the most pressing issues shaping the future of polar bears and the Arctic. The series will spotlight voices from research institutions, government, wildlife management, Indigenous and northern communities, nonprofits, and additional stakeholders.

Thematic installments will cover climate change, human-polar bear conflict, overtourism, hunting and trade, and oil and gas development.

The Arctic is warming more than four times faster than the rest of the globe, with polar bears and northern communities at the forefront of compounding challenges that demand swift, sustainable solutions. As a science-led conservation organization, PBI is committed to sharing the latest evidence and informed perspectives on how to navigate a rapidly changing Arctic and best safeguard future generations of polar bears.

Each special report will pair the latest available evidence with perspectives gathered through recorded conversations with people working directly on these issues, forming the basis of a multimedia Perspective series.

By bringing research together with the experience of those closest to these issues, Polar Bears International aims to provide greater context around complex conservation challenges. Long-term conservation demands collaboration at all levels, particularly with Indigenous communities, whose knowledge and frontline experience are essential to the survival of polar bears.

If you’re an expert working on these issues with research or insights you’d like to share, or would like to get involved more broadly, please fill out our survey. If you’re interested in sponsoring this research and maximizing its impact, please get in touch.

Polar Bears International will share updates from the examination and perspective series on a dedicated page of the PBI website and social channels. Sign up for the PBI newsletter or learn more ways to get involved and support ongoing research and conservation efforts.
