Our Team Christian Zoelly Field Research Contractor Christian has called Svalbard, Norway, home since 2011. Originally from Switzerland, his interest in outdoor activities and wildlife drew him to work on logistics for scientific activities in the High Arctic. With more than 10 years of Arctic field experience, Christian leads our risk management and safety program for campaigns, including coordinating logistics for research and outreach programs and leading operations. Prior to joining Polar Bears International, Christian was a chief engineer for the Norwegian Polar Institute on Svalbard, where he supported and organized land- and sea-based field campaigns. In 2019, he drifted for four months on board an icebreaker through the Arctic Ocean as part of the international MOSAIC Expedition. Christian graduated from mechanical engineering school in Zurich, Switzerland, and also has a B.Sc in business administration and financials. He likes skiing, hockey, and strong black coffee.
